George’s sound was shaped as much by hearing his parents sing old country songs in harmony as it was by the soulful music he grew up hearing and playing in his native Philadelphia. His heartfelt, original songs and scores are featured in a growing list of tv shows, ads and feature films.
Stanford’s latest release, ‘Alone At The Pilgrim’ is a solo acoustic EP, recorded in a stunning, forgotten church in Los Angeles. “I wanted to capture my songs in a way that felt small and simple but big and beautiful all at once. When the opportunity to record in the old Pilgrim Church presented itself, I knew this was the place,” says George.
Starting his musical journey on trombone, the songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer gives his records a deep sonic and emotional depth. Now based in Los Angeles, Stanford’s songs combine an East Coast soul and West coast sprawl.
George captures the spirit of the golden era of the 70's singer/songwriter--Paul Simon, James Taylor, Van Morrison--with a fresh and original approach to the tried genre. Following his debut ‘Big Drop’ on Mercury Records and several independent EP’s, Stanford released the beautiful LP ‘Something Better’ on Oakwilde records in 2014, and a steady stream of singles leading up to ‘Alone At The Pilgrim.’
Onstage, George has shined for audiences all over the country; playing his unique take on the American singer/songwriter tradition. He has performed on NPR's Mountain Stage, World Cafe, and NBC's Late Night with Carson Daly. He was recently named an Amazon Music ‘Artist to watch,’ and has been a featured artist on iTunes and SiriusXM’s ‘The Pulse.' He's toured with acts as diverse as Wyclef, Lissie, Babyface and Martin Sexton. For more, visit georgestanford.com.
